Bas ter Weel is Head of the Department of Labour and Education at the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. He is also professor of economics at Maastricht University. Previously he headed the department of International Economics at the CPB. Before joining the CPB he was employed at Maastricht University and the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets as an economist. His MA (1998) and PhD (2002) degrees are from Maastricht University. His research focuses on empirical and theoretical issues in the areas of labour economics and the economics of innovation and new technology. He is also working on the role of interpersonal relationships between workers and noncognitive skills to explain labour-market outcomes.
